Romance In Color Review: Passion Overtime

December 20th, 2009

Another great review from Romance In Color. Passion Overtime received 4+ stars and the reviewer had this to say:

Kyra Dixon is the PR rep for Hollington. With the homecoming festivities heating up, the last thing Kyra needs is an unwelcome blast from the past. But she’s been given the plum job of helping sign hunky pro-football star Terrence Franklin as Hollington’s new head coach.

Ms. Yaye introduces two energetic, determined characters. Kyra has a successful career, her own home and is doing well for herself. Her problem is she can’t get over how her ex-fiancée dissed her. Add to the list, her issues with her father and Kyra doesn’t trust men or feel she will never find the right one. Terrence has a bit of an ego, but he soon learns that you can’t always be on top. He knows he has skeletons in his closet, but that we all have learned from our mistakes in life.

I found the main characters simmering on again off again relationship intriguing. I really understood Kyra’s dilemma and sympathized with her. But there are always two sides to the story and Kyra was carrying baggage when she and Terrence were together. Terrence is a prime example of big name athletics and their egotistical attitudes when they get put on celebrity status. Not hating at all, but some definitely go overboard. Just look at the divorces and paternity suits out there.

I enjoyed the twists and turns Ms. Yaye did throughout the story. Terrence actually became a guy I rooted for in the end. Their chemistry together could not be denied. The setting is nice and really added to the story. If you attended college and returned to your alma mater, this brought back memories. The secondary characters were an inspiration to the story as well. I really enjoyed reading this book and definitely recommend reading it along with the other series. You won’t be disappointed.

OK. Some of us kind of were befuddled when a tearful Jessica Simpson tacked up ”lost” posters after her beloved maltipoo was carried off by a coyote.  Horrific, to be sure, especially to those of us who love our pets.  Yet we understood the odds against little Daisy’s escaping unscathed - and undigested — were slim.

Yeah, it was mercenary reasoning, but I remember thinking, “Heck; at least she’s still got Tony Romo.”  Then I realized, well, no, I think the studly Dallas Cowboys QB went MIA from Jessica’s life earlier this year amid rumors of his possibly going for an HEA run at his college sweetheart.

Now, that way there be monstrous romance-novel fodder, no?  Hot pro-football star heads back to, oh, I dunno, his 10-year college reunion, maybe, to score the one who got away: the fresh-faced young girl who helped him pull his act together to go pro, but whom he dumped by email on his way to first-season training camp.

That’s the deal with fictional retired Dallas Cowboys superstar Terrence Franklin, hero of Pamela Yaye’s great-way-to-spend-the-weekend read, “Passion Overtime,” part of Kimani’s Hollington Homecoming series.  Terrence is back on campus at prestigious Hollington University to decide whether he’ll sign on as head coach for his alma mater.  Charged by the U to woo him toward signing is smart, sexy and hell-on-pretty-heels competent H.U. p.r. director, Kyra Dixon.

Kyra’s jazzed about Terrence’s taking the job; the team and University need him to raise morale and attendance for the U’s once-strong football program. Yet Kyra’s thrown off kilter by her still-happening feelings for Terrence, the lightning-strike hot sensual attraction between them and the seeming fact that Terrence has grown into a stand-up guy whom folks respect for more than just his wicked-stellar success on the gridiron.

Despite this, Kyra’s so not gonna’ trust that Terrence won’t play her like the women she’s seen him love/leave in living media-saturated color for the past ten years.  And while Terrence knows he’s made big mistakes he’s set to make up for, he thinks it’s time he made Kyra his - but not before she understands the role she played in their breakup, and how history repeating itself could spoil their reunion and chance at hot, heavy and happily ever after.

Kyra’s and Terrence’s story will heat you up for more Hollington Homecoming, a series that doesn’t just explore relationships between strong women and the respectful, powerful men who have the right stuff to love them.  It also gives the reader a peak at the relationships built between women who shared goals in education and service while at university, then continue their friendships into adulthood through trials, triumphs and along the road to love.

Passion Overtime

October 30th, 2009

My writer friend, Donna Alward, who also writes for Harlequin sent me this a few weeks back, and I am just now getting around to posting it. Romantic Times had this to say about my November release, Passion Overtime,:

PASSION OVERTIME (4.5) by Pamela Yaye: Yaye does a bang-up job of giving her characters depth as they struggle to give love a second chance in this emotionally fertile story. Kyra Dixon, the spunky, successful P.R. rep for her alma mater, Hollington College , must convince former NFL player Terrence Franklin to take the head football coaching position. But Terrence is her college sweetheart and the fiance who dumped her when he joined the NFL. Now that he realizes Kyra is the only woman who loved him for himself and not for what he could provide, he wants her back. Persistence and patience have Terrence realizing that Kyra was more affected by their breakup than he knew. What will happen when his past threatens to put a permanent wedge between them?

Bad Boy Blues (a daily on-line read)

September 14th, 2009

Today, my daily online read story, Bad Boy Blues, begins on eharlequin.com. Read the chapters posted, make comments and share your thoughts about Renee and Adam’s story.  This is my first short story in a real long time and although it was a challenge getting the couple’s story down to 10,000 words, it was a lot of fun. I only wish I had another 10,000 words! (LOL) I’ve posted the link down below. Enjoy everyone!

Romance In Color

August 19th, 2009

Just when you think all hope is lost, another great review comes in! YAY! I love these guys over at Romance In Color. Not just because of their willingness to review my books, but because they were one of the first African-American websites to review books by us and for us. Games of the Heart is the feature book of the week at Romance In Color and this is what the reviewer had to say:

REVIEW:  GAMES OF THE HEART is an amazing tale of how two people who are definitely different turn out to be perfect for each other. Pamela Yaye tells a story of how opposites attract through Sage Collins, an impulsive, young woman who is trying to make a name for herself by any means; while Marshall Grant is an overprotective single father who plays by the rules at all times. The couple gets off to a rocky start, but once Sage realizes that Marshall is Khari Grant’s father she is determine to do whatever it takes to get the basketball star to sign with her agency and the NBA. Will Sage be able to pull off the biggest deal of her life or will love overrule her career ambitions?GAMES OF THE HEART. Pamela Yaye has another hit on her hands. Marshall and Sage’s story inspires you to believe that your soul mate is out there and that love can conquer all.

Sage Collins grew up in the foster care system and the streets. Her gutsy personality and good looks have moved her from the mail room to a junior agent at Sapphire Entertainment. Sage won’t be considered as an executive manager by her boss unless she signs upcoming star Khari Grant. Marshall Grant is determined that Khari is going to Harvard to become a surgeon and he will not allow his son to be distracted by the prospect of entering the NBA. An ex-military man and the founder of a community center for at risk kids, Marshall keeps a tight rein on Khari. Marshall lowers his guard and allows Sage into his heart later discovering she lied and squirmed her way into his life from the very beginning. By kicking Sage out of his life he realizes he doesn’t have one without her. Attempting to make amends, Sage makes another bad judgment call that forces Marshall to walk away again. Will Marshall and Sage find their way back to each other or will they live the rest of their lives apart wishing they were together?

The story takes place in Indianapolis and Las Vegas. A ski trip and a trip to L.A. are helpful to the plot and the development of Sage and Marshall’s relationship. The dialogue is intriguing and flows at a consistent speed. The supporting characters help us understand Sage and Marshall and help guide them in their relationship.

I absolutely loved

Ah, the life of a romance writer

August 18th, 2009

I got a scathing review for Games of the Heart. It’s the only one I’ve gotten, and it is nas-ty. This woman didn’t like anything, nothing, zilch. She even made a comment about Sage and Marshall going to a high school football game in February (I know sports, and I also know that private schools have a different schedule than public schools, and that’s why I added the game. But seriously, does it matter? I am all about the details, and check and recheck my facts, but come on.) She also didn’t understand some of the similies and expressions I used. Oh, well, everyone over at Kimani did! (Not to mention my four critique partners who read the book first.)

Writing Sage Collins’ story was a risk, and I knew that from the second I wrote the first line of the book. Sage is not your typical heroine. She’s aggressive, and strong and opionated and will do anything to get the job done. I like her, and I hope you all do too!

In other news (much, MUCH, more important news) I heard from the editor of eharlequin about my story, Bad Boy Blues. I am writing a daily on-line read for eharlequin and starting in Septmeber a chapter will be posted every day. This story is loosely tied in with the Hollington series, but Renee and Adam’s story is truly there own.  Anyways,  the editor really liked Bad Boy Blues and her email dragged me out of my funk. She said, and I quote: I really enjoyed it! Renee and Adam have great chemistry (Adam is hot!), your chapter hooks are strong, and I love how you’ve tied this to Hollington and alluded to the events on campus while still allowing it to be Adam and Renee’s story. I think it will make a terrific daily read.

Her words made me smile and reminded me that I am good writer. With all the craziness happening in my life right now, I needed a boost. Well, I’m going to put on some Maxwell, open up Bad Boy Blues and do the revisions that need to be done (thank God it’s minor). Until next time friends, stay blessed!
